The holidays are very magical in and around Colonial Williamsburg. Check out what happens before Christmas and on New Years Eve!
During the summer there are special events that you can take part in to boost the enjoyment of your vacation. During October and November there are some special events happening at the Williamsburg taverns for the holidays. The 2008 schedule will not be announced until September. I will post it when it is published. Mrs. Campbell's Tea- Join Mrs. Campbell and her daughter Molly for an afternoon tea. A typical 18th century tea will be served with scones, tea breads, finger sandwiches and pastries. Mrs. Campbell will be in attendance and will share stories of her contemporaries and of period customs. This tea takes place at Christiana Campbell's Tavern. Reservations are recommended. $19.95 adults Chocolate Dinner- $59.95 adults Mrs Shields's Fall Feast- This is a fall feast at Shield's Tavern.(2008 dates TBA soon) It is served family-style. There will be strolling balladeers providing musical entertainment. $29 adults According to the reservation desk at Colonial Williamsburg there are no substitutions for the menu so if your children are picky eaters this Williamsburg event might not be a good choice for you.
Breakfast with Citizens of the Revolution Friday through Sunday with seating at 8:45 and 9am. Enjoy this breakfast buffet at King's Arms Tavern complete with character interpreters from the Revolutionary War. (I would compare this to character breakfasts at Disney but real.) $14.95 adults $9.95 children (12-under) Chef's Table This is an adult only event of elegant dining at King's Arms Tavern. It takes place in a private room. You will be served a five-course meal inspired by recipes from the 18th century. As you savor each course the chef will explain how it was prepared. This event fills up quickly. Prepare yourself that you may be put at a table with another party. $75.00 per person To make reservations for any of these events call Colonial Williamsburg taverns at 1-800-TAVERNS.
If you want to experience the taverns this is a more interesting way to do it because of the added entertainment and interpreters that would be present. Locals do not typically go to the taverns for the food but for the experience. If your children are picky eaters consider getting a babysitter and go by yourself. They will not make anything different. My kids do not like the food at the taverns except the kids meal box. These Williamsburg Events fill up quickly so don't delay in making your reservations if you are interested in any of these programs. |
