Williamsburg Camping
Sleep where history slept!

If you think about it Williamsburg camping is like seeing Williamsburg through the eyes of our forefathers.

If you decide to camp in this area you are probably sleeping where Powhatan Indians like Pocahontas slept or Revolutionary soldiers like General George Washington slept.

There are not a ton of campgrounds in the area but the few we have are well kept and enjoyable.

Chickahominy Riverfront Park

This is my favorite campground in Williamsburg, mostly because of it's waterfront location and large pools. It is a 140 acre camping facility right on the shores of the Chickahominy River.

They have:

  • two nice swimming pools
  • a large playground
  • a boat launch
  • fishing pier
  • small driving range
  • a small store
  • A covered Picnic pavilion. The facility is run by the county and kept very nice and clean. They have camper hook-ups or you can camp like the settlers and pitch a tent. The last time we were there we had a site right on the banks of the Chickahominy and our kids were able to frolic in the water. This is the site of the Williamsburg County Fair one weekend each summer. Plan ahead to make sure you can get a site.

    Williamsburg KOA Park

The Williamsburg KOA park is a nice clean park. Because they are part of the KOA family you are guaranteed a certain level of quality.

This campground has RV sites, Tent sites as well as one and two bedroom cabins.

    Their amenities include:

    • Swimming Pool
    • Pavilion
    • meeting rooms
    • fishing
    • nice size store
    • snack bar
    • bicycle rentals

This KOA facility has a busy activity schedule chock full of family friendly activities like... Saturday nite live skits, ice cream socials, tie dye, finger painting, sidewalk chalk, candy bar bingo, Karaoke, chapel service, ultimate Frisbee, pool games, S'mores parties, horseshoe tournaments, scavenger hunts and more!

      Anvil Campground

The only Williamsburg campground to be located on the area shuttle bus route is the Anvil Campground. It is also closest to all of the area attractions.

The Anvil campground is family owned and operated and has been for generations.

The family is very proud of their history. They also pride themselves on their clean bathrooms and property.

      They have

      • a swimming pool
      • a game room
      • Free wi-fi
      • two newly renovated cabins the sleep 6 adults each.

Anvil campground is very family friendly and even has an Easter Egg hunt for the kids.

They have an Anvil Club that you can join and get discounts on return visits.

These are the three campsites that I feel comfortable recommending. The rest that are listed on other sites have either closed temporarily or are not in an area I feel comfortable recommending for families.
