In my experience Bed and Breakfasts are run by people who love to entertain. That is why they chose to open their homes to complete strangers and treat them like long lost friends.
You can turn your average Williamsburg vacation into something more unique or better yet into a Williamsburg romantic getaway.
There are over 15 different Colonial Williamsburg Bed and breakfasts to choose from. They range in size from one and two bedrooms to large homes with six or seven different rooms.
Here are some things to understand and take into consideration when choosing a Bed and Breakfast.
Most Bed and Breakfasts are homes that have been transformed into a quaint Inn. The owners either live in the same building or in a building on the same property.
Unlike a hotel you may have to share a bathroom with other guests. If this is a problem for you make sure you ask up front if there are private bathrooms. The price is most often dictated by whether there is a private bathroom.
You will be provided with usually a very fine breakfast every morning. The breakfast is included in you room rate. Some B&B's also offer dinner options.
There is usually not a pool at a B&B.
Except for the bedroom, the relaxing/living areas are all common areas shared by all of the guests. Make sure you are in the right mindset to talk and interact with the other guests. If you are, this can be the best time you have on vacation. I know lots of couples who make life long friends while staying at a B&B.
Some people might disagree with me on this but, I don't think Bed and Breakfasts are appropriate for young children. They are typically not child proofed and it would be very stressful to bring your children into someone else's house filled with fancy decorations.
A B&B may be the perfect Williamsburg romantic getaway if you are looking for a luxurious bedroom without a tv and lots of charm. Most Bed and Breakfasts do not provide televisions in each room. This may add to the romance!
Which one is the right one?
Since I live in Williamsburg I have not had the opportunity to stay in many Williamsburg Bed and Breakfast Inns. I am,however, going to make one recommendation. Check out The Inn at 802.
I personally know the owners and they are wonderful people and great cooks. It is a beautiful property and you will not be disappointed. They have 4 rooms each beautifully decorated and unlike many B&B's they have a full kitchen their guests can use to prepare that late night snack!
You can book a weekend at the Inn at 802 or other Innsby clicking on the link below for Bed & Breakfast.com They also have a ranking system and reviews from other visitors to help you make your choice.
From talking to my friend who owns The Inn at 802 I know that the busy season for B&B's in this area starts in March. I would suggest booking as early as possible. If not you may not get what you want.
