Are you looking for the Williamsburg Airport that will get you here?

There is not actually a Williamsburg Airport that handles commercial flights. But don't panic...there are three airports close to Williamsburg, Virginia.
Newport News/Williamsburg Airport,(this is sometimes called the Newport News Patrick Henry Airport)
Richmond Airport
and The Norfolk Airport.

Newport News/Williamsburg Airport

Newport News/Williamsburg is the closest airport to Williamsburg.
It takes about 30 minutes door to door.
As well as being the closest it is also the smallest of the three.

They have direct flights from a few Eastern hub cities but for the most part every flight into this airport is a connection.
Even though it may not sound like it, there are some distinct advantages to this airport.

  • Parking is less expensive then the other two larger airports.
  • There is less traffic flying in and out of this airport, so it takes less time to get through security and to pick up checked bags.
  • It will take you half the time to arrive at your hotel once you land.
  • It is occasionally cheaper to fly into this airport compared to Richmond and Norfolk.

    Richmond Airport

This Airport is the second closest airport to Williamsburg. This is due to the fact that you do not have to drive through the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel. This tunnel connects Norfolk and Virginia Beach to the rest of the Peninsula. It is usually a traffic nightmare.

The Richmond Airport is newly renovated with a brand new indoor parking garage. It is a lovely airport. It is not huge but it does have features like a large airport.

It will take you longer to get your luggage when you arrive and go through security when you leave but not like a large hub airport.

The drive time from Richmond is about 50 minutes.

    Norfolk Airport

This Airport is not farther if you just compare miles but it seems much farther if you take into account the traffic in the tunnel.

You will need to allow yourself at least an extra hour in both directions. If you are leaving or arriving on a weekend you may need more time because of beach traffic.this is the only road to get to Virginia Beach and one of two routes to get to Nags Head.

The airport is a very nice airport that has also been renovated recently. It is about the same size as Richmond.

If you fly Delta you can sometimes get a direct flight to Norfolk.

From personal experience I can recommend checking all three Williamsburg airport choces when you are making your reservations. I am not sure why, but the three airports sometimes have very different prices for the same time frames.
