Kings Dominion Amusement Park...Two Parks in One!

Kings Dominion Amusement Park

Two for One!

Kings Dominion Amusement Park is not only an amusement park but also a water park. You get both parks for the same price. You can ride all the rides and play all the games on the dry side of the park and then ride all of the water rides in Waterworks. Unlike Busch Gardens and Water Country USA, both of these parks are in one location. You pay to park once and play at both parks.

My family and I enjoy visiting Kings Dominion Amusement Park and we have a great time. I have two young daughters and this park is geared both towards children and thrill seeking adults.

For Kids

Kings Dominion Amusement Park is home to Nickelodeon Central and most of the kid's rides are themed around the Nickelodeon characters like The Rugrats, Scooby-Doo,The Jetsons, Sponge Bob, Dora and Blue's Clues.

There are two kids coasters and my older daughter's favorite ride: Rugrat's Toonpike. This is a small track with cars that the kids can independently drive around following the street signs. There is a children's stage as well as a character parade and meet-n- greet with the Nickelodeon characters.

From personal experience- even if you are not doing the Waterworks section of the park-bring a complete change of clothes. They have a water maze that is irresistible to children and they will get drenched!

The WaterWorks park is very limiting for children under 48". If your children do not make this hight restriction there are only three activities in the water park they qualify to ride. In my opinion it is not worth it until your kids are over 48". If you want a more kid-friendly water park try Water Country USA.

One other option you can take advantage of is the Parent Swap Pass. Stop by Guest services when you arrive and they will issue you a pass that allows only one parent to wait in line for the whole family. At a certain point the rest of the family joins the line and everyone rides together. This is perfect for those inevitable bathroom runs or tantrums!

For Thrill Seekers

My husband is a huge thrill seeker and he has conquered all of the roller coasters at Kings Dominion Amusement Park. And they have a bunch!
Kings Dominion Amusement Park

This year they have added their best roller coaster yet...

Make sure you check out the Dominator.

The Dominator is a 4,210-foot steel coaster which is the longest floorless coaster in the world. When you ride it you fly through gut-wrenching loops, rolls and corkscrews at speeds up to 65 mph!

"Awesome" was all my husband could say!

Just listen to him scream. You can tell it is terrifying!

Kings Dominion Amusement Park ranks their thrill rides from 1-5.

Here are the rides they rank 4 and 5 on the thrill meter!

    For the Hungry

The food at the Kings Dominion Amusement Park reminds me of carnival or state fair food. You can find all kinds of sinful goodies like funnel cake and fried oreos- yum! They also have incorporated some of your favorite chains right into the park. You can find

    • Starbucks
    • Chick-fil-A
    • Bubba Gump's Shrimp Shack
    • Subway
    • Cinnabon
    • Broadway Fries

They also have their own snack bars spread around the park.

The park management is more strict with what they permit you to bring into the park. They say NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINK! I can tell you that I did bring in some small snacks and water bottles but we visited on a very slow day at the end of the season. They are more strict during the high season.

The one point I have to make to parents is that the restaurants that are not chains do not offer kids menus. The only kids menus are at the Chick-fil-A and Subway.

You may want to consider packing a cooler and leaving the park at lunch time to eat. The parking lot is not very spread out so this is feasible. Just remember to get your hand stamped.

      Halloween Haunt

Starting in September the Kings Dominion Amusement Park is transformed into a Halloween destination.

Halloween Haunt runs from September 26th through November 1st.

After 6pm this is a PG13 event and no children under 12 will be admitted to the park. I have heard it is extremely scary. (Being a big Chicken I have not experienced it myself!)

There are three types of activities added to the park for your scary enjoyment.

There are the scare-zones. They take each section of the park and transform it based on some spooky themes. The themes are:

      • The Harvest
      • Central Stalkway
      • Voodoo Swamp
      • CarnEvil
In each area costumed characters jump out at you and do their best to scare your pants off!

        The Mazes

Throughout the park there are eight different haunted mazes set up for you to journey through if you are brave enough. They all will have you screaming for your mommy!

      • Toxic Plague
      • Club blood
      • Outpost
      • Big Top Terror
      • Maze of Madness
      • Blood Shed
      • Blue Ridge Blood Bath
      • Blackbeard's Revenge!

        The Shows

Kings Dominion does not have as many shows as Busch Gardens Howl-O-Scream but they do have three especially for this event.

      • Haunted Homecoming
      • Elvira's Superstition
      • Disturbia

Like everything else at Halloween Haunt you should expect some scary stuff. This is not an event for the weak of heart.

        Tickets

The tickets for this event only differ in one respect.
On Friday night you can get in for $31.99.
