Williamsburg Art introduced in a way that will have kids of all ages excited.
This summer there is a great Williamsburg art program taking place on Fridays that is geared towards kids and helping them gain an appreciation for Williamsburg Art and more specifically Folk Art. John D. Rockefeller Jr. and his wife Abby Aldrich Rockefeller were great fans and collectors of Folk Art. Starting on June 20th their home, Bassett Hall, is the site of "Abby Art" A program geared towards children that takes them on a guided tour of Bassett Hall showing off the large collection Abby A. Rockefeller chose for their home. The end of the tour culminated with everyone in the family completing a theorem - to take home. A Theorems is a form of Folk Art popular in Colonial times. I have not yet taken this tour with my daughters but we have participated in other children's art programs at the old Abby Aldrich museum and they were always well done and enjoyable. This program is free with either a ticket to Colonial Williamsburg or a good neighbor pass. While you are at Bassett Hall you can also enjoy the other things to see there. You will be able to tour the mansion and outbuildings that include a teahouse, smokehouse, kitchen and dairy. Bassett Hall is located at 522 E. Francis St. and is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except on Wednesdays. The Abby Arts program runs from June 20th - August 29th. The program runs from 10am to 12 noon every Friday.
